ESFiD Information for Currently Enrolled Students
Currently enrolled students at ESF have 2 distinct credential sets, an SU NetID and an ESFiD.
The SU NetID is managed using the tools at https://SelfServ.syr.edu, and is used for SU-affiliated student systems (AirOrangeX wireless, Blackboard LMS, MySlice, etc...)
The ESFiD is managed through the ESF's Microsoft Online portal: https://portal.microsoft.com. This username/password combination will be used for all ESF and SUNY affiliated systems, Evergreen Wireless on campus, public PC access, and other digital resources on the ESF campus.
The process below helps you set up your ESFiD for first use, reset your password, or unlock your ESF user account (ESFiD) whenever you need to do so. Before you can use your ESFiD, you need to set it up. The setup process asks for a password and security questions and records/stores your answers. This will allow you to setup and maintain your account in the future even if you have forgotten your password or if your account is ever locked out (due to, for example, too many incorrect log in attempts).
ESFiD Setup process:
Step 1: Follow the "ESFiD setup" link below and log in with your default credentials:

A student’s initial password is: ESF-XXXXXXXXX, where XXXXXXXXX is your 9-digit ID card number (without the dash).
For example if Joe ESF Student’s SU NetID is jestud34 and his ID number is 12345-6789, his initial portal login will be:
Step 2: Set your password.
NOTE: Setting or resetting your password in the cloud affects all uses of the ESFiD. If you change your password, you will need to update it everywhere you use your ESFiD (e.g. on email account setup on phones/tablets and campus wireless connection profiles).
ESFiD password requirements are as follows:
- Passwords must be at least 13 characters long (a combination of letters, numbers and symbols).
- Passwords must contain at least 3 items from the following 4 categories:
- Special character (e.g. #,$,%, ,^, etc.) Note: please resist using the @, &, /, \, or = symbols in your password.
- Capital letter (A,B,C, D, etc.)
- Lower-case letter (a,b,c,d, etc.)
- Numeric character (1,2,3,4, etc.)
NOTE: You may not be asked to change your password the first time you log in using your temporary password. This can be resolved by changing your password through the "Security & Privacy" options in the "My Account" link (top-right corner after logging in; typically your intials ina colored circle).
Step 3: Set and confirm your Self-Service Password Recovery portal options.
You need to complete at least 2 of the 3 password recovery methods presented and then confirm your settings to finish the process. That's it!
Once registered, you can change your ESFiD password, or unlock you account, at any time from anywhere on any device at https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com.
NOTE: Once set up is complete, you can access your ESF email via http://email.esf.edu or https://portal.office.com.
Your SU email can be accessed through https://sumail.syr.edu.
