Below is a list of useful resources/services provided by Computing and Network Services when learning/working/teaching remotely at ESF.

Remote access to on-campus storage: Access H: (M:) drive, departmental storage, research storage, downloadable academic software, and computing lab faculty drive resources:

Go to HTTPS://Filecenter.esf.edu and log in with your ESFiD username@esf.edu (e.g. esfperson@esf.edu).
Go to HTTPS://ESFApps.esf.edu and log in with your ESFiD username@esf.edu (e.g. esfperson@esf.edu) for access to downloadable academic software.

ESF Remote Labs: Remote access to computers in the ESF Computing Center, in Baker Labs and downtown at 224 Harrison street, running requested software used in ESF classes:

Go to https://it.esf.edu/Access/Remote-Labs for details and instructions on connecting from off-campus to this temporary system.

SU Virtual Lab: Remote access to computing resources hosted at Syracuse University, including many of the software titles used in ESF classes.

Go to https://rds.syr.edu and log in with your SU NetID username@syr.edu and password. Note that this system may require you to log in twice on first use. Remember that the H: drive in this system is your SU H: drive and not your ESF H: drive.

ESF Virtual Desktops: Remote access to a virtual desktop on the ESF campus network for administrative use and some class/lab software access.

Go to https://vss1.esf.edu and log in with your ESFiD username@esf.edu. Either choose HTML access or ‘Install VMware Horizon client’ and remember to use the server name vss1.esf.edu when asked within the client application. NOTE: Enrollment in ESF’s DUO Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) system is required, VSS1.esf.edu will send a push notification to your cell phone without prompting, so please have your cell phone available when using this system.

Microsoft 365: Access cloud storage (Microsoft OneDrive), collaboration, and communications tools (Microsoft Teams) for working in groups… separately.

Go to https://portal.office.com and log in with your ESFiD username@esf.edu and password to access ESF’s Microsoft O365 portal (Faculty, Staff, and Students).

Web conferencing tools: Access to Web conferencing tools for use in meetings and classes from small to large.

Microsoft Teams: Go to https://portal.office.com and log in with your ESFiD username@esf.edu and password; Install the Teams app for a full experience.

Zoom: Go to https://zoom.syr.edu and log in with your SU NetID and password; Install the Zoom app for a full experience.

SU Google Apps for ESF students: Student access to SU Google Apps (including how to log in)

ESF’s DUO Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) system: This system is used to add an extra layer of security to your login to a growing number of ESF systems.

Go to https://secure.esf.edu to enroll your smart phone and start using DUO to better secure your ESFiD on select ESF systems.

ESF LinkedIn Learning for light training in some of the software/systems we support/offer: ESF partners with SU to provide LinkedIn Learning (fka Lynda.com). This system provides a wide array of training modules on a variety of topics and is available to all Faculty, staff, and students.
